I have previously posted a study on it, but before I post the new one, I would like to first clarify what exactly we may understand or not understand under the term.
This is not a long video as it would make no sense stretching your attention span over the topic of such. The questions that come to mind are as follows:
- do you tend to tune out quickly or remove yourself from situations that are not for you?
- do you have a strong sense regarding what you are and what you are not interested in?
- do those talking about low attention span also criticize spending too much time on what you might be interested in? (the accusation of obsessive behavior tends to be not far from the ADHD one)
- is faking interest in something painful to you?
- do you often think about something else while trying to stay present where you don’t feel right?
- have you ever had your mental health/stability questioned when someone wasn’t happy with your lack of enthusiasm over what he/she spent too much time sharing his/her interest in?
Since the “Wanderlust gene” is real and ADHD has often been put into question, here is another study on what we know to be:
The present study investigated gender differences in the associations between the DRD4 variable number tandem repeat (VNTR) polymorphism and adolescent delinquency, short temper and thrill seeking. We also explored whether the gender-specific expression of the DRD4 can be explained by gender differences in the exposure to psychosocial risks, such as poor parent–child relationship. Participants were 263 14- to 17-year olds (50% males) living in Russia. DNA was extracted from saliva samples and the VNTR DRD4 polymorphisms were genotyped using polymerase chain reaction. Participants reported on the extent of their delinquent behaviour, short temper, thrill seeking and exposure to psychosocial risk (i.e. poor parental monitoring of adolescent behaviour, exposure to violence and peer delinquency). Compared to individuals with the 4/4 genotype, males, but not females, with the 7-repeat allele (7R) had significantly higher delinquency, short temper and thrill seeking. This interaction effect, however, was completely explained by males’ higher exposure to psychosocial risk factors. When parental monitoring of youths’ activities and youth exposure to violence were included in the model, the 7R × gender interaction was no longer significant. Thus, social context plays an important role in explaining gender-specific phenotypic expression of the DRD4 gene.

If you have been diagnosed, what if anything has been done about it? What advice do you have for those unable to fake interest for a long enough time not to trigger “ADHD” in the minds of those who have learned to be okay with being interested in everything and nothing?
Dopamine receptors control neural signals that modulates behavior. Dopamine plays an important role in normal attention; that is the reason for studying the genes of the dopaminergic system, mainly in connection with disorders of attention. DRD4 influences the postsynaptic action of dopamine and is implicated in many neurological processes, exhibits polymorphism and is one of the most studied genes in connection with psychiatric disorders. Associations were found with ADHD (attention deficit hyperactivity disorder), substance dependences, several specific personality traits, and reaction to stress. These findings have implications for pharmacogenetics. This article reviews the principle published associations of DRD4 variants with psychiatric disorders.

ADDED:
What is now of great interest is DRD4-7R frequencies based on ABO and Rh factor.
This article reports an association between the variation of dopamine D4 receptor (DRD4) allele frequencies around the globe and population migration patterns in prehistoric times. After compiling existing data on DRD4 allele frequencies of 2,320 individuals from 39 populations and on the migration pattern of these groups, we found that, compared to sedentary populations, migratory populations showed a higher proportion of long alleles for DRD4. The correlation between macro-migration (long-distance group migration) and the proportion of long alleles of DRD4 was .85 (p < .001), and that between micro-migration (sedentary vs. nomadic settlement) and the proportion of long alleles was .52 (p = .001). We discussed the adaptive value of long alleles of DRD4—a genetic trait that has been linked in some studies to the personality trait of novelty-seeking and to hyperactivity— in migratory societies and the possibility of natural selection for a migration gene.
Here are some more questions:
- Is the Wanderlust gene higher in countries such as USA?
- Were the migrants throughout history higher in Rh negative blood than those who stayed behind?

Attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is one of the most frequent child psychiatric problems with a complex genetic and environmental background. According to the prevailing view, main factors of the disorder are prefrontal dopamine deficiency and incomplete central dopaminergic functioning. Twin studies suggest substantial heritability in the background of the disease, and the studied candidate genes involve components of the dopamine system. Moreover, various noxious pre- and perinatal environmental impacts have been implicated in the pathogenesis of ADHD. Here we review experimental results from epidemiological, tissue and animal studies that assigned a causal role to fetal hypoxia in the development of ADHD and pointed out that the dopaminergic neurotransmission is sensitive to hypoxia. Allelic variants of the D4 dopamine receptor (DRD4) are well characterized risk factors of ADHD. Recently we have reported that hypoxia enhanced the promoter activity of DRD4 gene several fold. These observations suggest that the effect of hypoxia on the dopaminergic neurotransmission might be an important factor in the pathomechanism of ADHD.
I’m b neg. I was diagnosed with ADHD in fourth grade. As a child I was not treated or medicated. There was a stigma that exists today That ironically people have the misconception that children or adults who have ADHD are retarded or not as smart. The research suggests Children and Adults with ADHD have a higher IQ than the general public. Twenty years ago I decided to take medication. My Doctor is Doctor Hallowell He has written many books on this and is by far an expert. I can hyperfocus. As a child I was an equestrian. This sport takes super focus and I excelled. In grammar school I struggled. If a course interested me like biology or chemistry I could hyperfocus. In college I learned that I needed to read or reread many times..yet the knowledge I learned is as though I just learned it..Received A’s on my boards which were eight hour long exams..not fun. I work now with Children and many suffer from ADHD. I understand them, and they listen to me. People always comment that I’m a Good” teacher” I love teaching the kids. I’m able to educate in certain areas in my occupation. My Father B neg, studied Latin and English . Was going to become a teacher, decided to become a dentist..which he became. I find that i have to have everything very organized and clean or I will become distracted…
I am A negative. I have ADHD and have been diagnosed by a psychiatrist.
I think ADAD is considered bad in society and schools.
I have a tremendous ability to concentrate and focus on things that im interested in. I also find that ADHD people are more empathetic and in touch with emotions and frequency, thus diagnosed with ADHD.
The truth is that ADHD have a strong connection and sensitivity with energy, also with the spiritual energies. That is why more children are being diagnosed with ADHD. Children are breaking free of the matrix most adult humans are stuck in at the moment.
Being mindful of yourself and centering yourself is a good way to ground yourself in the present moment.
Understand that ADHD is a gift of connection to the energies and being able to filter the energies correctly is what ADHD people should learn . Grounding oneself is the key to filtering life energy and processing information. ADHD people are a gift to humanity . ADHD are able to communicate energies of the universe and living things if they can direct that energy correctly.
This makes the ADHD persons life less chaotic and confusing.
Love all 💙💜💚🧡💛❤
I hope this helps.
Mike I swear it seems like you are reading my mind sometimes.(Im obsessed with mammoths. Lol) But anyway, my sister and I are both A- and she was recently diagnosed with ADHD. I have a disorder called excoriation. I have not been diagnosed because I hide it due to stigma and misunderstanding. Its currently classified as OCD but scientists disagree with this. Through my own research and comparison with other affected people, it seems like its from ADHD.
The TLC Foundation for BFRBs has ongoing research and launched a precision medicine initiative, in search for a treatment. I have wondered if being rh negative is related to this.
Or maybe this DRD4 gene.
—This is from their website:
Even if a predisposition toward BFRBs is inherited, there are other factors involved as well, including temperament, environment, age of onset, and family stress factors. One interesting point is that other species engage in similar behaviors. Primates, such as the great apes or certain types of monkeys, will pull hair, overgroom and pick at nits and other insects on their own fur and the fur of others. Birds will pull out their feathers, mice will pull fur or “barber” themselves and their cage mates, dogs and cats may lick their skin or bite at an area, removing fur until there are bald spots. Researchers interested in animal models of BFRBs are trying to understand these behaviors in animals in order to shed some light on the complex neurobiology that underlies the human experience of BFRBs.
Given the possibility that BFRBs have genetic and neurobiological origins, the TLC Foundation launched the BFRB Precision Medicine (BPM) Initiative in 2014, bringing the cutting edge approach of precision medicine to the goal of finding new, more effective treatments for BFRBs. Precision medicine uses behavioral, genetic, and biological indicators to describe an individual pattern of disease in order to develop individualized treatments.

Thanks Leslie,
I noticed that my son used to pick at his hair and or scratch his blanket in between fingers. He had ADHD, I myself AS HE would pick at my fingernails…I have OCD tendencies… Like I’m a germaphobe…wash my hands all the time.. I always thought this was anxiety based but now I’m really seeing a much bigger picture…a connection between ADHD family members and drug and alcohol addiction, related to this. Really interesting ! Thank you
Just curious , if DRD4 gene prevents adequate dopamine production. Could this be a predisposition for alcohol and drug addiction? Just a thought.
DRD4-7R is being associated with high alcohol consumption, drug usage, gambling, thrill-seeking in general. Those who do not live a life that inspires them easily change circumstances to seek satisfaction while some escape into self-destructive behavior on their quest.
Thanks Mike,
I wish I knew this information sooner. My children have ADHD. My son suffered from drug addiction . He was most effected by ADHD symptoms…adderal worked. When removed he turned to drugs. I now can see the connection. I’m surprised I never read or heard about this before. Thank You my two other children suffer from ADHD..I will make them aware..Thank You! My son’s best friend Damien Hughes was murdered in Boston July 31st seeking treatment for his drug adfiction. It’s on Fox news in papers and protests. The methadone mile. I talked to his mom today and Damien suffered from ADHD also. This exposure could help save a life. I will try to mention this connection to alert parents. Finally My son and His best friend may not have died in vain! Change is starting…but so important that I warn parents of this. Thank you
My thoughts: Help your kids avoid having to do things they don’t like doing. That way they can focus on finding what they enjoy. It is that simple. The same people who failed to warn you are probably coming up with something a lot more complicated.
Thank You! I will most certainly take this advice. I can see that they need this now more than ever. Both work so hard. My oldest I think may be suffering from anorexia right now. She was suppose to go to med school and that changed. She works double shifts on an altziemers floor and all of her patients died from covid. Unfortunately Lauren had to do postmortem care and this broke her spirit. She will be going to physicians assistant school. My Other daughter works 60 hrs a week at ratheyon. She is graduating with a plastics engineering degree and was hired full time. Has full time classes online to obtain degree. She tends to drink to much! More than ever I see how important your advice is…Massachusetts is very expensive to live, there both struggling to succeed.Having ADHD does make daily endeavors a challange. Thanks!
What do your kids enjoy doing? When are they happiest? What would they do if all options were open without hurdles of any sorts? I sort of figure out how to teach students when I learn from them how I can help them “get there”. The “there” part has to be theirs. Not something they say based on what they think they should do or say. Those external pressures can be detrimental. I believe in our abilities to find our way. I believe there is much in the way that isn’t that much when we focus on what we want and go after that.
I believe that we are taught to teach our children wrong on many levels. I can talk about this forever and will talk more about it in the future. I just looked up Damien. Please do use your voice and let me know how I can help.
Things I crave but don’t engage! Right now its sex! I’m honest! But maybe that’s an RH neg straight? Or redhead trait? Who knows its my vice!!! And I’m having fun so probs not so good for me? Sex is an addiction too yes? So every week I’m in confession!!!
Met my German th negative actually two setting and earhard! My addictions….Its definitely the special eyes and high IQ…hey one of them was in Hollywood????The eyes for sure!
I believe so. Background in drug and Alcohol Counseling Nd Psychology.
Thanks that’s interesting.
Thanks for offering your help, very kind. Yes I will voice my opinion I need to stay focused on the objective . Damien and my son Joseph died as a direct result of misguided funds from mass Senate creating an unsafe or non existent Recovery centers for opioid addicts. The funds are not being used or delegated to improve conditions or make beds available. I pled with the Senate to find my child a bed in a safe area for rehabilitation. After months of calling and begging a bed became available one day to late , my only son was dead…There is no safe place for these to addicts to go. They turned a prison into a “rehab?”( My son was sent there and traumatized) Myles Standish forest max security prison. ..took these kids treated them like criminals and subjected them to inhumane conditions…feces all over bathroom no detox meds no after care..a orange jumper and a cell…one kid committed suicide. Addiction should not be punished, many have depression, underlying conditions that they turn to drugs to obtain relief. I will use my voice…Damien was over so much growing up he was like a son! I can’t believe this happened again, prayers for Damiens mother Ashley would be a way to help. Prayers that this media attention exposes truth, and Damien and Joseph s Demise will be a catalyst for change. That another mother gets to kiss her child tonight and not be subjected to this unnatural loss., Not unbearable greif. ” I believe we are taught to teach our children wrong” confused can you elaborate on that statement? Thanks for your support.
” ” I believe we are taught to teach our children wrong” confused can you elaborate on that statement? ”
I think that we are often pressured into finding a quick solution which can lead to a quick wrong decision.
I think sometimes it is best to simply have no answers together and just be there for our kids.
I agree! Thanks! And am most defiantly have made decisions out of fear to protect my children without thinking the consequences through completely. Thanks Mike ! I’m going to have to practice just being there, I try to control things that scare me pretty fast sometimes, just being present is excellent advice that I will practice..TY
As a parent you do anything to save your child. This is one of many failures of this state to provide humane and safe recovery programs for drug addicts…Plymouthaddiction center. ” bostonglobe.com/metro/2017/12/02/addiction center-run prison syst. ” You ask for help when your fear your child will die. This is one of many unsafe environments my son was subjected to…He said better than Bridgewater Rehab in mass! There is no excuse for these kids to suffer like this. My son lost hope..never did he receive help. I’m going to expose this issue. This article published six months before my son died. This is one article on many failures of Massachusetts to provide for the sick children. This broke my son down…scared him! It’s inhumane how drug addicts are treated. As a parent I will show the truth . These are not environments to promote health! It kills there souls, makes everyone lose hope!
That is one of the worst things when in a time of need those promised to help won’t.
This is not just a Massachusetts, but global issue.
We never want to label anyone, especially not as an “addict”. It is important to never lose track of individual needs. Again: There is so much on my mind on the subject. I have learned in my teenage years how corrupt the medical industry is and spent decades since watching others learn the hardest ways possible.
Providing happiness is the best we can do and let our kids decide and have faith in their decisions. They want what is best for them and meddling and allowing external fears in makes it worse.
Feed the spirit. Expect nothing. This is about your two daughters. 🙂
Agreed Thank You! My youngest daughter Julia decided to leave house and move in with me! So perfect time to work on happiness , feeding the spirit! I too don’t like labels…My son was a beautiful, smart complex child who’s father abused him and drugs offered relief…The public gets or understands word addict, which now I feel guilty I have used at all! When I was with Joseph I would ” be there” My husband kept doing section 35 and I would protest yet had minimal control over. The desperation and anguish my son and I sureferred now understanding these ” rehab were not helping but hurting” him..The court overruled my ” feelings” and my husband tried to do the same to me telling courts I was depressed ect..because of my son…This was a way to torment us! I was always violated into thinking your a bad mother of you don’t get him help . you will be negligent..in alonon I did learn to be present but fear can be powerful!
My friend Ashley got sick after a protest for safe recovery systems for children or young adults in need! She invited me to go with her to mayors house. I think someone loosened the protesters…now I’m afraid to go! We share a song by artist Svrcina ( meet me on the battlefield) I’m st brain off brain so I express myself through art and science…weirdo? But that’s me!…is it a delusion that RH negatives share that we can make a better world? We have a purpose? My new favorite artist is NF. Reminds me of my son…he liked the kind of music this artist proclaims! He sings a song ” if you want love” I realized through my art I’m dark….want revenge…ready to go to war!!! Of course with dignity and grace…but what I want most is for a man ( good looking) RH neg….sorry guys I can be shallow…to spoon me…just tell me everything is going to be ok…that I’m loved….wanted….but that’s a fantasy…must fight the good fight and embrace loneliness….men only want my body( cracks me up I’m 52 but they say I look 30?) Whatever…I’m only one person…do you think I can with Ashley change things….I don’t won’t never will do face book….but show some love to Ashley tender and Damien Hughes…My boys best friend..he was family to me and I’m tired of crying myself to sleep from bad people slaughtering my children our children like they were nothing! There everything! There you, there me, there you son, your daughter, wife, husband they were real, they suffered…so say a prayer for them whoever you pray to? And pray that if one life is saved from broken mummy ‘s that’s a life…were all just peoples…RH negative are unique but we are not better we are not less than….hear me???? We are all equal in gods eyes…so jump off the in important or more important train….your actions show what character you possess…so send this grieving mother some love before she overdoses…ANegative blood type…her not me I’m b negative…really who gets a VIP to mayors house an A neg? That’s a joke
My brother and I both have ADHD. My mother thinks I need medication, I highly disagree and literally don’t know why she would even suggest it. I’m good with who I am and wouldn’t change for anything. Yes, it can be isolating and challenging sometimes, but more so for those around me rather than myself. Contrary to what people think, my thoughts may seem to be all over the road, but my brain is really good at multitasking. My brain is like a filing cabinet from which I can pull out thoughts and ideas from different drawers in random order, but within the cabinet everything is still perfectly alphabetized and orderly. I don’t know if everyone with ADHD functions this way, maybe the organization part is a Virgo thing.
I am b negative. I was diagnosed many years ago with ADHD. It can be challenging…at best. I have made comments on prior blogs and only want to help a fellow rhnegative…to perhaps some experts that can test, may possibly do phone video chat…Dr. Hallowell…is an expert on ADHD he has offices in Boston new York and possibly other locations…His Boston office is located in Sudbury mass. The Hallowell center. I can point you to Doctors I know who can most certainly help you or refer to local specialists…You can find his books online. I chose to be treated with medicine…I go on I go off…but the mental pain when you have ADHD can really cause harm in certain areas…There listed online…don’t take insurance…but worth a call to direct you to the right people and tests…Good luck!
