The Rh Negative Blog

“Are Yemeni Jews 40% Rh Negative?”

The latest claim brought to my attention was that 40% of Yemenite Jews are rh negative. No study has been provided to support this claim.

Yemenite Jews or Yemeni Jews or Teimanim (from Hebrew: יהודי תימן‬ Yehudey Teman; Arabic: اليهود اليمنيون‎) are those Jews who live, or once lived, in Yemen. The term may also refer to the descendants of the Yemenite Jewish community. Between June 1949 and September 1950, the overwhelming majority of Yemen’s Jewish population was transported to Israel in Operation Magic Carpet.

Here is one study:

9.4 % of the blood samples were Rh-negative, as compared with the findings of the previous
study of 13.5 % amongst the Ashkenasi community, 12-3 yo for the Sephardic and 13.1 % for the
Oriental community. Gurevitch, Brzezinski & Polishuk (1947) in a study of the Rh factor and
haemolytic disease of the newborn amongst Jerusalem Jews, examined forty-four Yemenite
Jews with only one (2.3%) Rh-negative
finding.

Conclusion:

The claim lacks serious credibility, but as always, new studies are invited to be brought to my attention.
