The Semmelweis reflex or “Semmelweis effect” is a metaphor for the reflex-like tendency to reject new evidence or new knowledge because it contradicts established norms, beliefs, or paradigms.
How often does your intuition clash with social norms?

my intuition & understandings of things often to very often clash – some examples: what is money…currency…debt-notes? sexual turn-ons/the main one for me: nice adult fm feet/soles (pheromones anyone? among many other things)…the Earth’s nuclear reactions in it’s core were estimated in 2018 to create 55% of the heating of this planet & the rest of the planetary heating (i think) is essentially all from solar radiation & yet almost no one understands this or it’s implications – along w/ carbon being the life-cycle element on this planet & CO2 being a secondary greenhouse gas, meaning it increases and decreases largely from where it’s mostly maintained/captured/stored in the oceans – based on temperature rises or falls that occur first caused by other inputs/changes over usually long periods of time. this planet has largely gay-male-controlled-designed-favoring systems & structures [for it often takes an individual much like this (or okay w/ this fact & it’s implications) to exist deeply & well w/in them] + it’s being estrogenated via other human creations/factors/systems often. i think J.C was the first socialist. i cannot conspire w/ myself by definition, thus it always takes two or more people – but when things/people become corrupt – cons-pirating becomes common or the way many or most human orgs/groups/groupings operate, like now…the way-of-the-lie dominates. truth matters a lot, as does one’s character – although most don’t believe this. beauty is only skin deep and/or relative – i don’t think so – not based on my 57 yrs of experience here. differences make a difference, usually – most ignore this and/or can’t integrate these things/truths and so into their worldview or actual being. and so it goes, for now: the bias is toward what is normal/common…while the truth really isn’t either & i’ve said is often buried under a mountain-of-shit.
Oh my… slow it down. Your mind is a racing! Jajaja i remember when mine was on fire. Calma calma … slow her down… take a deep breath. It’s tough to be a thinker sometimes huh. xxxooo
okay & yes — fwiw: based on the baby book my mom kept on me ’til about age 2, my self-assessed iq & potential iq at that time was 170-200+. in recent years i think i’ve finally gotten back into that range. being misunderstood & being too different have always been problems w/ me. my highly eccentric INTJ personality type fits like a glove, it fits/suits me well…i deal w/ the rest as well as i can. usually i don’t interact much, which is typical for the few people w/ most of my traits – now and past.
clarifying: 55% of the heat coming from the planet itself is apparently nuclear related…the total heat energy coming from the planet is perhaps ~ 3x the amount of energy humans use yearly now. the real driver/input source that heats this planet is the sun. for instance: “To put that in numbers, from the US Department of Energy: Each hour 430 quintillion Joules of energy from the sun hits the Earth. That’s 430 with 18 zeroes after it! In comparison, the total amount of energy that all humans use in a year is 410 quintillion Joules. For context, the average American home used 39 billion Joules of electricity in 2013.” https://www.businessinsider.com/this-is-the-potential-of-solar-power-2015-9
so, in a general sense: the solar energy hitting this planet in one hour is about the amount of all the energy humans use in 1 yr., or 8766 times the human usage per yr rate.
“”Amount of transferred energy
Amounts of energy are measured in Joule. The Sun transfers in each second and amount of 1367 J on each square metre of the Earth’s diameter. This corresponds to a power of 1367 Watt [1 Watt = 1 Joule per second]. We call this value the “solar constant”.”” http://klimat.czn.uj.edu.pl/enid/Climate_Change_classes_ss/ss_Energy_from_the_Sun_6ev.html
obviously, seeking to capture & store the huge amounts of solar energy in space from the sun seems wise also. i don’t expect a runaway greenhouse event here because of human CO2 emissions anytime soon…decades/centuries? anyway…as i see things: what is desired by those – most of those – governing/guiding/shaping things human and more is to control things more/as much as possible…humans and all else if possible someday. certainly most would probably prefer to have a predictable climate (although that is not completely in our control) w/out wide variations…but i think the main complaint w/ a warming planetary environment would be rising see levels and many don’t want what’s been built near the oceans to become submerged or damaged. there’s a tremendous push to control the environment…i think many would prefer it if the earth cooled. what the best balance? i don’t know. it’s usually easier to destroy most things than it is to create them…some say spend trillions/whatever’s needed/required to change the warming trend…also i say: it’s not “money”/the money that does the work – it’s the people. i’m not a fan of forcing people to do things. i prefer choice/to have choices. i prefer consent. anyway…i’ll see what happens, at least while i’m alive – i suppose.
Perhaps it is human nature to reject new ideas and rather, readily accept the norms and beliefs that are based on the false opinions of what is accepted by society.
Something like hive mentality or mob rule, I guess?
I have always tried to keep an opened mind about different ideas, even if I don’t agree with them.
As of late, I am noticing how people are becoming more and more self righteous and will actually get angry and shut you down if you do not go along with their narrative.
I googled Ignaz Semmelweis https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ignaz_Semmelweis
Glad to know that the man has gotten got the recognition that he deserves for his discovery of hand hygiene and the germ theory. Such a sad and ironic way that he died.
Daily ! And more than once.
