Basque Mysteries and Mythologies
As in many other cultures, Basque mythology builds upon the four natural elements, fire, earth, air and water. However, earth is at its core; in fact, the primary character is Mari, the goddess of earth, who can adopt any desired shape and lives in a score of havens across the Basque Country. Urtzi may have been a Basque mythological figure—a sky god—but may have been merely a word for the sky.
