Red hair has been around for 20,000 – 100,000 years and likely originated in Northern Europe:
Some early hunter – gatherers in Britain could have had red hair. The Neolithic Middle Eastern Farmers and the later Indo-Europeans who migrated Europe had dark hair and eyes with an olive skin colour. They interbred with the blonde, red hair hunter – gatherers in Central Europe. By the time the Celts came into existence and migrated Western Europe, they looked exactly like modern Europeans.
