In addition to my previous posts:
Gray eyes are not distributed evenly throughout the world. Less than 3% of the world’s population has them. They’re most common in Europe, especially in Northern and Central European countries like Iceland, Ireland, Sweden, Finland, and Norway. In other parts of the world, they’re much less common.
Gray eyes can also be found among the Algerian Shawia people of the Aurès Mountains in Northwest Africa, in the Middle East/West Asia, Central Asia, and South Asia. The Greek goddess Athene appears with gray eyes (γλαυκῶπις). Under magnification, gray eyes exhibit small amounts of yellow and brown color in the iris.
The Chaoui people or Shawia (Algerian Arabic: الشاوية, Tachawit: Išawiyen) are a Berber ethnic group native to the Aurès region in northeastern Algeria which spans Batna and Khenchla, Oum El Bouaghi provinces located in and surrounded by the Aurès Mountains.
