Because certain blood types are more likely to co-occur with varying levels of hormones in the body, physicians commonly tailor their exercise recommendations to the patient’s type. People with type A blood, for example, are more likely to have higher levels of cortisol, the stress hormone, in their body. So, stress-reducing exercises, like Tai Chi and yoga, may be more beneficial at cutting that tension than running or weightlifting alone.
When the adrenal gland dumps more and more cortisol into the blood, people’s stress response grows more acute. People with type A blood may find themselves getting anxious more quickly and having a harder time letting troubles roll off their back.
In a study of OCD sufferers done in 1983, Blood Type A was shown to be associated with a higher incidence of OCD over other types, in addition to a higher incidence of hysteria.
I am relieved to read this. I am type A, as is my Father and my older brother and my son….we all to some degree are OCD, all have issues with anxiety, i personally have Bp issues related to this as well. I have 3 other siblings and they do not have the same issues or blood type. This just seems to help explain the connection.
I’m A- Ever since I was a child, I’ve been a perfectionist, I’m the worse critic. I paid great attention to details that others have missed. Organization and orderliness have helped me profoundly achieve many wonderful things. None of these compulsion symptoms have interfered with my daily life, on the contrary, it has benefited me in a positive way throughout my life. An example: When I worked in a hematology hospital laboratory as a laboratory assistant, the pathologist who happened to be part owner of the laboratory hand picked me out of 98 medical staff to become the supervisor for the laboratory assistant and phlebotomy team. It was an honor but at the same time, it placed a tremendous responsibility on my shoulders as I remembered the pathologist saying once, “there’s no room for mistakes in medicine”. Very true.
I’ve been always a leader, not a follower.
BTW- In my second career, I became a college instructor who taught Art History Throughout the Ages, ESL( English as a Second Language), and Spanish. My attention to details, organization, orderliness played an important positive role which helped developed further my career.
This is funny. I was to take an EEG to see if I still have epilepsy. I was to sleep a few hours but not too many.
I got so worried about doing everything I was instructed to do, that I couldn’t sleep ALL NIGHT!
It was all adrenaline.
Usually, now, when I am worried about something, I drink some warm milk before bedtime.
