Idk why O- is so valuable bc they can actually use O positive for most of the population and around 40 percent of people have that type I think and most of the remaining can still use it. I realize a woman of child bearing years that’s O- can bc sterile so that’s a no go but they have ways to use the O pos for the rest w desensitivity drugs if they’re rh-.
I stopped giving blood when I learned that but they do call incessantly. I don’t like the red buses they’re filthy and freak me out and I now live too far from town.
So idk about other countries but in the US one blood started a “new” program just for O- blood donors. Apparently ones like me that won’t go. They have a brand new state of the art sprinter van and will drive across the state and pull right to your driveway. You walk out they get it and you’re right back in your house. I felt too bad to say no when they had an answer for all my reasons why I wasn’t going. I didn’t get kidnapped though lol
My point is it must be valuable for something, thry drive from st Pete (2 hrs away) for it and only had one more person to see that day. Another 2 hr drive. That was three donors all day for two workers and this brand new van set up.
