Only around 17% of Ireland is Rh negative
Sure, that isn’t exactly a low number, but I would have expected much higher frequencies. Were the numbers a lot higher at one point? Did the potato famine kill more Rh negatives or were Rh negatives more likely to migrate? Either way, Northern Ireland remains at more than 27% Rh negative. The Irish and the Scottish are also reasons for high Rh- frequencies in Australia. While Celtic Nations tend to have high percentages of Rh- blood, Wales seems to also have no higher numbers than the European average.
