One of the already well-published discoveries is that people with blood type O are much more likely to attract mosquito bites than people with other blood types.
A 2004 study published in the Journal of Medical Entomology found mosquitoes landed on people with type O blood nearly twice as often as those with type A. Those with type B blood fell in the middle of the spectrum. Typically, for 85 percent of us, our blood type is revealed through a chemical we have on our skin, which makes mosquitoes more attracted to us.
I rarely ever get bit by mosquitoes. There have times I’ve been out with friends, family and even my kids and they get bit up terribly and I don’t… I’m O- …
I THINK THIS DISCOVERY IS FOR THE O+, BECAUSE I RARELY WAS BITTEN BY A MOSQUITO. ONCE I WAS WITH OTHER PEOPLE ON A FIELD WHERE THERE WAS AN INFESTATION OF MOSQUITOES. THEY WERE ALL AROUND ME. AND NO ONE OF THEM BIT ME. THEY EVEN DIDN’T LAND ON MY SKIN.
I have only gotten bit once in the last 10-12 years and I live in a subtropical climate (read mosquito haven). I am type O-. My husband and son are O+ and they are like a mosquito buffet…
I am O- as well and am very rarely ever bothered by mosquitoes. While my O+ son gets eaten alive if he is anywhere near mosquitoes. Strange….
Same here. I’m O- and never bothered by mosquitoes. My husband is O+ and they eat him alive!
This is all very interesting. However, during a neighborhood get-together involving about a dozen adults, two women joined me as those among us who were most bitten historically. Surprisingly, each of us is A negative, not O negative. Could it be that the negative factor is more important than the blood type?
I am O negative, and mosquitoes feast on me every year. I have to wear repellent, long sleeve anti-bug shirts, citronella bracelets, etc. But let me miss one area, and a mosquito will find it! Same with chiggers. It prevents me from wearing shorts in the summer. So I have switched to stretchy yoga pants instead.
me too, and I have one in my house that is driving me crazy at night when I am sleeping, under my arm I was bit 8 times last night. Kathy
If there was a room of 100 people, and one mosquito…it would find. ME to bite. Often. Mosquitos LOVE me. …. I’m A-.
They do not bite me 🙂
Myself, my brother, and my mother are all A-, and we get absolutely eaten alive by gnats/mosquitos every summer. My father, on the other hand, is an A+, and he rarely ever gets bitten at all.
Do you know your secretor status?
I am A negative and get eaten alive by mosquitoes, my huband is O negative and rarely gets bit.
Interesting. This is completely contrary to my family. Rest of my family are A+ and they get nasty bites and large swollen bumps from mosquitoes, and on the other side I’m A- and they wont touch me or i get minimal Irritation from mosquito bite. Also, my family members sweat a lot and I barely sweat at very hot day or intensive workout.
My neighbor has O+ blood and is bitten all the time. I have B- and have not been bitten in years.
I am A negative and get eaten alive.
I’m o-. Husband o+. They ignore him, bite me. I cannot go outside without protections while the goes of without a shirt.
