One misconception is to assume that today’s y-DNA indicates origin of a population. Throughout history, male DNA was often replaces. Tribes were invaded by men who killed all the original men and enslaved the boys who often wound up dying due to poor treatment. The women were taken, so mtDNA didn’t get lost though make-up and frequencies changed. The Basques are no different.
