Matthew Walker discusses the sleep loss epidemic occurring in the medical community.
Sleep is one of the most important aspects of our life, health and longevity and yet it is increasingly neglected in twenty-first-century society, with devastating consequences: every major disease in the developed world – Alzheimer’s, cancer, obesity, diabetes – has very strong causal links to deficient sleep.
I’m so happy about this subject being discussed. When I became an insomniac no one understood how my life was effected. I’m 52 pre/post menopausal issues started my problem. This actually became the catalyst for my panic disorder. I understand how every aspect of my life was ruined by insomnia. I tried to get help and was awake 12 nights in hospital care, this should have ended my existance, no one was educated or did they have any idea how helpless I felt from there ignorance. No one cares ! I believe my father’s restless leg syndrome and ultimate heart failure was due to insomnia. I do take medication, to survive. Our medical community in Massachusetts has gone beyond mistakes, not sure if insomnia or discrimination is the result of this genocide… However in normal hospitals everything is effected and so many mistakes made by residents due to insomnia…My life has become a game of survival due to insomnia…I chose to medicate, have to or can’t function…b neg father b neg…
Was there ever a time when you slept well without being medicated?
