I learned that because my job for 15 years (while working in public health, as a statistician and later as an epidemiologist) where my main responsibility was analyzing death data (including producing all kinds of mortality rates and interpreting the data in various reports).
I am sadly being reminded of it again.. .as one of my brothers is currently dying of cancer.
